Chanel Gabrielle Eau De Parfum

Chanel Gabrielle Eau De Parfum

I actually bought this for my sister as a Christmas gift, then found myself massively falling in love with it on Christmas day, and wishing I had bought myself one. It was a gift I knew my sister wanted, but not something that had ever appealed to me, if I’m being honest. I do adore Chanel fragrances, doesn’t everyone? But when it was released last year, I didn’t find the reviews to be all that great. What I had read – and now I realise, I should have just gone and actually tried it for myself – was that it was very floral, fresh and too immature. I get none of that personally… Anyway, after checking with my sister if she minded, and promising that I wouldn’t wear it when we were out together (she didn’t seem to care, but lets be honest, nobody likes a clone), I went ahead and treat myself to one.

This is very much a Chanel fragrance, without a doubt. It has those beautiful floral, woody, creamy notes, it has the warmth and depth, but it also has something a little more modern and fresh – and by fresh I mean updated, not powdery, or synthetically clean – which I can often associate with that word when fragrance is described. It’s funny, because the main notes in this, are actually florals; but I don’t smell it and think of it as a predominantly floral scent – yes they are in there, but there’s so much more to it – it’s extremely classy, and sexy too; and is definitely one for an evening. Personally, I find it reminds me of a much more modern take on Coco Mademoiselle; the underlying notes are there, but it’s been given a freshen up, a makeover, and is much less overpowering and heady. Don’t get me wrong, projection and longevity are exactly what you expect of a Chanel fragrance, but they are done well, in a way which is slightly more subtle and alluring.

One thing I also find interesting about this offering, is the bottle. When I first opened the box, I thought I’d accidentally purchased a 30ml, as oppose to the 50ml I wanted. I actually re read the box three times to be sure, because the bottle is so lightweight and dainty. After doing a bit of research, it alluded that the bottle has been designed with a “weightless” effect ultra thin glass – clever stuff.

This one will be a re buy for me over and over. It’s a modern take on the Chanel fragrances, and one that is treasured on my dressing table. I won’t be wearing it daily, I think it’s too precious for that – instead it will be one of those fragrances that makes an appearance for those special occasions, and that hopefully, starts to have a few lovely memories attached to it in a couple of years…
