Byredo Velvet Haze

A blind buy, I was instantly seduced by the suggestion of a coconut note. Give me coconut anything, I love it – especially coconut based fragrances. Sadly, the coconut note fell flat… and to be fair, the purchase in its entirety. You see, Velvet Haze is a pleasant perfume, but is it as intoxicating and unusual as other reviews and suggestions make out? Absolutely not. Maybe it’s just my skin it doesn’t suit, I don’t know – but for the price I paid, I was just expecting something with a lot more depth and intrigue. I don’t think it’s particularly unique either, it gave me overwhelming nostalgic memories of my early adult life, when I used to drown myself in Narciso Rodriguez for Her – they smell very similar… and one has a lower price point.

On the plus side, if you like the scent, the silage and projection is good, really good – as you’d expect for the price point. I’d describe the scent as a floral, musky, sweet, warm spicy, musk type scent – there’s a lot going on, and I do think it suits the name “haze”, in a positive way. But after dry down, which didnt take long at all, it kind of just fell flat for me. Perhaps, like I say, it’s just my skin it doesn’t suit… I have seen so many positive reviews on this, so I guess it comes down to individual preference. Unfortunately though, it won’t be a repeat purchase for me.
