Investment Scarves

This winter I’ve really started taking my accessory investments a bit more seriously – when I say accessory, I mean anything that falls out of the handbag and shoes department. Scarves seem to have become a bit of an obsession lately, but ones that will really last, and should mean I don’t have to keep repurchasing every year.

Obviously the main one that comes to mind with an investment piece in this category would be the Burberry classic cashmere scarf – it’s been around that long, I can’t see it ever going anywhere – and it would be a really sound investment if you are looking for something to stand the test of time. But one that really stood out for me just before Christmas when I was having a browse, was this gorgeous pink and black Fendi piece. It’s 100% cashmere (I’d advise going down that route if you want something that is going to last – and it will actually last forever if you look after it well), and the colours fall into that classic neutral palette; so it will pretty much work with any outfit and coat. These pieces are very expensive up front – especially for a scarf – but, as well as the obvious (keeping you warm in winter), I’ve actually realised how well a really classic scarf can actually transform and pick up an outfit. The Fendi piece I invested in is so luxurious and thick, it doesn’t actually need to be worn with a coat, so in the Autumn – it’s pretty much a piece on its own. The same goes for the Burberry ones too, I’ve seen lots of fashion inspiration on the likes of Pinterest, etc, where they are worn on their own without coats when the weather is a little milder – and they just totally transform outfits; especially an all black or neutral one. Acne and Mulberry also do wonderful investment options (I’ll link a few below).

You don’t need to spend a fortune either, or necessarily go for the designer option. I actually found the most beautiful 100% cashmere scarf in H&M late last year, and picked one up as a Christmas gift for my mum. Again, if looked after, it will last forever – and it didn’t come with the designer price tag. Their cashmere is really good, as is cashmere from the likes of Arket or Uniqlo, and they tend to do some really great colour choices too.

Whatever price point you do go for, I’d advise sticking to a neutral colour, if its something you’re investing in for longevity and versatility; so think grey, nude, pink (neutral pink – not bright), grey, black, navy – you know the drill. I’d also recommend investing in some moth prevention bits for your wardrobe – I use Cedar wood blocks, as they can just be sanded to refresh them, and will last so long – they are important to purchase though if you want your pieces to last, so make it a priority!
