A Quiet Christmas

So I normally put together a “What I Got For Christmas” post every year, I love them, and I know a lot of other people enjoy them, but this year, Christmas is a bit different for everyone, and so I’ve decided not to. A lot of people this year sadly won’t have been able to even see their loved ones, I know that many will have also struggled financially this year too; and although I don’t need to say it, because we all know… it’s just not about the presents this year – I feel so very, very lucky that I even got to see my family on Christmas Day, and I don’t want to cause anyone to feel sad by reading a post showing all my Christmas presents off… whilst other people really struggled this year. I know that we can say if you don’t like it, or don’t want to see it, you don’t have to click on it – but it’s not always as easy as that. Anyway, I don’t want to ramble on, but I still wanted to mark the occasion, so I thought instead I’d show just a couple of lovely pictures to show how we managed to celebrate (mainly involving food!). Yes, it was different – but it was for the whole world in some way or another – and this too, will eventually pass.

I read the most beautiful book just before Christmas – The Ickabog. I’d actually bought it for my nephew, and naturally had a flick through, then ended up getting engrossed and reading the whole thing in two days. I enjoyed it that much, I then couldn’t part with it, and so ended up having to order another copy for my nephew! It’s honestly brilliant, and I think both kids and adults alike will enjoy it, I certainly did.

Because of most restaurants being shut at the moment, on the 23rd I was going to put on a Sugarplum Fairy themed afternoon tea for the family, but obviously our plans ended up having to change… so my poor other half ended up having to endure it instead (I’d already ordered the food before the announcement) so we ended up with a ridiculous amount, but it was nice to pick at all day, and keep coming back to. I also really enjoyed setting it up too, I was quite proud!

Christmas Eve (the BEST day) was spent drinking copious amounts of hot chocolate, and watching all the Raymond Briggs films – The Snowman, Father Christmas – always tradition… and then the main day we were very lucky that we got to spend with my mum, sister and nephew; we ate and ate, played stupid games, and enjoyed Christmas tv. One thing I really, really enjoyed this year was the C4 showing of Quentin Blake’s The Clown. I love Quentin Blake, and was so excited to see it on, I think I’m going to watch it again today. It also inspired me to buy his treasury book, so I’m really looking forward to that arriving.

Today (Boxing Day) I was going to cook a huge roast for my mum, but again obviously our plans had to change – so I’ll be making it for just the two of us instead, and also spending the day reading my new books, and eating all my Christmas chocolate – lovely!

I hope everyone managed to enjoy this Christmas the best way they could – here’s to a brighter 2021, and as always, thank you so much for supporting me and my blog this year – it’s more appreciated than you know.
