My Favourite Day of 2020

This year probably isn’t what most of us planned, let’s be honest. We’ve all had so many events, holidays, weddings, even just little days out cancelled, or not able to go ahead… I’ve had my own fair share this year. But one thing I did get to do, was visit Alton Towers for Scarefest – and this makes me so happy. We go every year, it’s a bit of a tradition, and I look forward to it so so so much. Truth be told, I was kind of panicking that lockdown restrictions would come into play, and wouldn’t make it possible – and I did actually have tickets booked for the Halloween weekend, but the lovely staff at Alton Towers allowed me to move them forwards – and so it meant we got to have one wonderful day full of fun, normality, happiness and laughter.

I went with my Mum, my sister and my nephew. As is our usual tradition, we stopped for a Starbucks on the way there – and also took a huge picnic full of party food, which we ate before we headed inside. I also kitted myself out in my new Nightmare Before Christmas t-shirt (I’m very sad, I know), but it’s THE best film, and so fitting for Scarefest.

I honestly had the best day ever. Alton Towers did so well with the social distancing measures and safety they had in place, and still managed to make everything feel normal. It was such a lovely escape (from you know what) and it was wonderful to spend time with my family too – some of them are in lockdown again, meaning we can’t spend time with each other in private indoor locations, so do get to do this, was fantastic. We went on all the Halloween type rides – Hex is my absolute favourite – we did Duel twice, and my nephew was also very brave and gave Wickerman a go! Obviously we also ate ALL the sugar, and stuck around until dark, just enjoying all the scares and fun. I was absolutely shattered when I finally got home, and had one of the deepest and longest sleeps ever – always a sign of a good day!

This weekend I’ve decided I’m going to have a film and sofa day. Our dog had to have an operation this week, and he’s on a strict six week rest period – so it’s lots of love, cuddles and sofa time for him.

I’ve already made my film list, in this order: The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Corpse Bride, Hocus Pocus. I’m going to make a huge Sunday dinner, and I also really fancy some nice cinnamon buns – so I’m going to go on a little cinnamon bun shop hunt tomorrow. Ooh, and I treat myself to this from Hotel Chocolat – so I plan to dive into that this weekend too.
