It’s a bit of a mystery why it’s taken me right up until now to finally try a Jo Loves fragrance… Obviously I’m obsessed with the Jo Malone brand, and I’m a sucker for a beautiful fragrance, and so I’m kind of kicking myself right now that I didn’t try them sooner.

If you’re not familiar with the Jo Loves brand, it’s the latest project from Jo Malone herself – she sold the Jo Malone company to Estee Lauder in 1999, remaining there as Creative Director until she moved on in 2006. One of the main reasons I’m kicking myself for not trying the products out sooner, is because Jo Loves is almost like discovering a lovely, exciting brand spanking new extension of Jo Malone. The fragrances remain true to everything I love about Jo Malone – they completely stand out from anything else on the market, they are innovative and exciting, and still have that signature luxurious feel in both the quality of the products, and the packaging.

Pomelo, one of the brands bestsellers, was actually a blind purchase for me after a friend (a friend who has a very similar taste to me, and one that never really fails on the recommendations) sent me a message with a few that in her opinion smelt great. After a quick read up on notes, I thought Pomelo seemed very “me”, on paper.

The main notes in the fragrance are Pink Pomelo (a citrus fruit, very similar to grapefruit), Vetiver (a fragrant grass plant that shares similar characteristics to lemongrass and citronella); and Suede, a note I quite literally adore in fragrances, as I always find it adds mystery, depth and masculinity. It’s very energising, sharp, crisp and has a real touch of masculinity about it – another thing I love about fragrances. It stands out extremely well, the citrus is most definitely there, it’s very energising, but the suede brings everything together and really holds the dominant note – they compliment each other beautifully. If I close my eyes and smell it, it reminds me of expensive, crisp white pressed bed linens in an open, airy room on a summers day; it reminds me of someone who is extremely well put together, and likes to look after themselves, someone with class, and someone with elegance.

It also remains true to the expectations of Jo Malone with the strength and longevity, which really does warrant the price point. In fact, I’d probably say it’s slightly stronger than the Jo Malone fragrances; I literally needed one spritz, and I could still smell it quite clearly on myself 8 hours later. One, definitely no more than two spritzes are all you need to scent yourself in an alluring, non offensive, classy way; that will have numerous people asking what it is you’re wearing – I did. It’s not often that I blind buy a fragrance, but this is one that I’m really glad I did – it’s a definite winner, and it’s probably one I’ll re purchase again – I only say probably, because I now have a trove of new treasures to discover with the Jo Loves brand… how very exciting.
