Joy by Dior

On the way home from Las Vegas, I obviously did the usual nosey around duty free; and whilst having a browse, this rather gorgeous, aesthetically pleasing bottle caught my eye! … not that I’m a marketers dream or anything. Anyway, much to my delight, the fragrance contained inside said bottle also turned out to be delightfully as pleasing. Being that it was about Β£3 cheaper than the full at home price, I didn’t need to snap it up for the bargain, and therefore thought I would see how me and my new found fragrance got on, on the 14 hour journey home.

Fast forward five days and new found fragrance is sitting on my dressing table… The usual story, couldn’t stop sniffing my hand all the way home, was desperate to get off the flight to order, now can’t stop spritzing and gushing over bottle.

In all honesty, on first spray, it isn’t all that spectacular. It’s kind of like a generic, pleasant smelling shampoo – nice, but nothing special. But after a few minutes, it dries down and develops into a warm, classy, modern and feminine floral. It’s very unassuming, very pretty and clean; but not at all soapy. It contains fruity notes of zested bergamot and mandarin, blended with floral notes of rose grasse absolute and jasmine (the jasmine may explain why I’m such a fan), this then combines with sandalwood to offer a subtle warm and creamy touch.

Now I’m quite particular about my fragrances, and only tend to be interested in something stand out or unique; and in all fairness, upon first spray, this could be replaced by many other fragrances out there… but once it gets going, this reacts very well with my own skin and produces something memorable enough for me to feel like I need it in my own collection. As always, try it on your own skin first, but I do think this would be quite a versatile scent and could even potentially be a safe blind buy. It projects well, but not overpoweringly so – as I said, it’s very unassuming – and it lasted throughout my 14 hour journey, albeit slightly faded once I got home, I do think that’s understandable though. I have the EDP version (which I always prefer), and right now there’s no EDT option on the market.

Is it a showstopper? No. But it is a really classy, modern scent, that kind of just makes me feel like I have my life together when I wear it. It’s a little bit like the older sister of Miss Dior, sweet and sparkly – but more adult; and that being a firm favourite of mine, is probably why I like this one so much. If you like Miss Dior, you’ll like this.
