Will You be my Bridesmaid?

When we got engaged, I had two weeks afterwards to relax in the sun… obviously this provided quite a lot of time to start thinking about wedding planning, and more specifically within the context of this post, who I wanted to be by my side on my special day.

To be quite honest, it really didn’t take too much thought. I knew straight away, without a question of a doubt, but the difficulty I had, was cutting it down… I’m actually having seven bridesmaids, and I know – that is a lot; but in all honesty I literally couldn’t imagine spending my day without any of them by my side – so seven it is. There were however, a few more people who mean the world to me, and I knew just had to be part of our special day too; but there are other ways they can be included, such as being a witness; being a part of the ceremony, for example giving a reading; and being by your side on the morning of the wedding by inviting special friends to get ready with you all – there are lots of options, so hopefully a few to consider if you are having the same dilemma.

Once I had decided, the fun part was asking everyone. I opted to ask with writing special individual messages in cards, and also giving each bridesmaid a little box of my favourite chocolates. Weddings are a lovely way to capture all your favourite things, and as afternoon tea is one of mine, I thought it would be the perfect way to ask everyone.

Seven girls with busy lives, means it can be quite difficult to get everyone in one place… so I’ve been gradually asking people over the month, and ensuring they kept it off social media until everyone else knew (I didn’t want anyone guessing that’s why I had asked to meet up); but this weekend I finally met up with everyone and completed team bride!

It was so lovely seeing everyones reactions, and knowing how happy and excited they were. Our wedding day is about us, but I also want it to be about our loved ones too – I want the people who are most special to us to be able to share it, and also have the best, most perfect day. Yes it’s about us and our love, but I also see it as a way to give back to the people who have helped shape our lives, by giving them a special day too.

Another wonderful, wonderful week that’s left me feeling so very lucky; but I think I’m slightly caked out for now (as if I’m actually saying that). I’ll blog about the afternoon teas separately, but I hope you enjoyed reading this post and would love to know about your own bridesmaid experiences…
