Home Sweet Home Manchester

I recently discovered Home Sweet Home situated in Manchester’s rather cool Northern Quarter. This place is an absolute sweet lovers dream. With an American diner inspired menu and cakes the size of small houses, you’d struggle to leave here hungry.

This charming haunt has a very homely feel, and is a lot bigger inside than I imagined; although I guess it needs to be for the number of fans it attracts – and rightly so. My friends and I visited here one Tuesday evening, and although the place was busy, we were seated right away. We really struggled with what to order, as we literally wanted everything on the menu – yet still wanted room for cake! I decided to go for the Hot Dog Fries – a huge portion of fries covered in sliced hot dogs, crispy onions, American mustard, spicy ketchup and cheese sauce… mouth watering yet?! I also chose a portion of Jalapeño Mac n Cheese and the Loaded Nachos – nachos smothered in melted cheese, salsa, creamy guacamole, chipotle sour cream and jalapeños; I decided to skip out on the additional option of BBQ pulled pork or shredded beef.

So my food came, and obviously this was way too much for one person to handle. I’m not quite sure why I insist on constantly ordering around 3x the amount I can actually eat when I go into a new and exciting restaurant… but I’m not complaining as I happily sat and sampled a little of everything. I’m sorry I didn’t take a picture of this, but I was (honestly) so excited when my food came out I really couldn’t wait to dig in. Not to be defeated, I then went for one of the huge slices of cake on offer – there were at least 12 different flavours and styles on offer, and my friend and I spent a good 15 minutes agonising over our decision, in the end I chose a chocolate & banana offering and a vanilla milkshake to wash it down with; much to my delight this came American style, complete with sprinkles and a cherry on the top. I will be honest, I managed around 3 bites of this cake before giving up, I was just too full; but our lovely waitress was only too happy to box it up for us to take home (this lasted the hours drive home from Manchester, until I got home and scoffed the rest).
