Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud Cologne Intense

I’ve recently been on the hunt for a new and unique signature fragrance… Currently, I’m starting to gravitate more and more towards perfumes that are more exclusive and not everyone has – and this one fit the bill perfectly.

A few days ago I was gushing to a friend about how much I loved this scent, and she asked me what oud smells like. To me, on its own oud is a very insence-y smell, that if done wrong in a scent is horrible – I’m not looking to be taken back to when I was 13 years old and burnt cheap incense sticks in my room like they were going out of fashion – but done right, as this scent is, it’s something pretty special.

I wouldn’t describe this cologne as a floral, not at all – yes it has the rose, but I’d liken it to more of a rose jam type scent, complimented by a very very delicate oud undertone, that adds depth and rarity.

Sillage is moderate, not too soft, but not in your face; and the longevity is good. What I particularly like about it, is that the scent gently changes throughout the day, often bringing out different notes that weren’t detected before. Just the uniqueness I was looking for.

This one is a serious keeper for me, and at the moment is my new signature scent. I’d probably say it’s more of an evening affair, but could easily be pulled off in the daytime too.

Jo Malone Velvet Rose and Oud costs £112 for 100ml and can be purchased here*.
